‘HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD’

Today we enter the holiest of weeks in the Church calendar, when we celebrate the timeless and central mystery of our faith − Christ's passion, death and resurrection for us, His people. On this Palm Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ,

we commemorate Christ's entry to Jerusalem to accomplish the Paschal Mystery. The Paschal Mystery includes the sufferings, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus into glory. It will be followed by the sending of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus to continue the work He began. In our liturgy these events are spread over a period of seven weeks but we should look on them as an indivisible single accomplishment of Our Lord and Saviour for us.

We pray that the sacred events of the Easter Triduum will be a blessed and meaningful time for all of us and for our parish.

MASS OF CHRISM will be celebrated by Bishop McKeown with the priests of the diocese in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry, on Holy Thursday morning (29 March) at 10 o’clock. During this Mass the holy Oils for Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Ordination are blessed. Also, the priests renew their Ordination promises. Everyone is welcome to attend this, the only Mass celebrated in the diocese on Holy Thursday morning.

REQUIESCANT IN PACE

Our prayers are asked for the souls of those whose anniversaries occur at this time: John Duffy, Patrick Moore

DIVINE MERCY NOVENA

Please join in praying the Divine Mercy Novena from Good Friday (30 March) to the first Saturday of Easter (7 April), leading into Divine Mercy Sunday (8 April). It will be prayed 30 mins before Mass on each of the days. Leaflets are in the porch.

St Faustina of Poland received apparitions of Christ in the 1930s in which He asked her to have His Image painted and venerated throughout the world. He also revealed to her that He wished the Sunday after Easter to be the Feast of God’s Mercy – Divine Mercy Sunday. In the Jubilee Year 2000, at the Mass for the canonisation of St Faustina, Pope John Paul II proclaimed to the world that “from now on throughout the Church this Sunday will be called Divine Mercy Sunday.”

St Faustina, pray for us.
