The Easter Journey

Being Hopeful On Our Journey

Easter… reminds us that there is for all of us the real possibility of a fresh start and a different outcome to the challenging perplexity of our lives. The forty days of Lent are behind us. The fifty days of Easter stretch out before us. As we have died with Christ so now shall we live with Him. Such is the meaning and promise of our Baptism. Our old life is at an end. There is a new beginning.

We should not understand this too naively, of course. Easter is a genuine possibility for all of us but we need to make it our own if anything is to come of it.

The journey through Lent to Easter is the journey of a lifetime.

As to where we might be in that journey … for many of us it is, perhaps, still very early on the first day of the week and quite dark in the first glimmer of dawn.

But that is enough to nourish our hope.

Fr James O’Kane
