Ahead of World Meeting of Families, we are delighted to welcome American journalist, John L Allen Jnr, to the Derry Diocese, on Friday, 17th August, where he will talk on ‘The Challenge of Pope Francis to the Church in Ireland,’ reflecting on the recent writings of the Holy Father. This event will take place in St Mary’s College, Northland Road and you are warmly invited to attend. Admission is free. John is the editor of Crux (Cruxnow.com), specialising in coverage of the Vatican and the Catholic Church. He is the author of nine books on the Vatican and Catholic affairs, and is a popular speaker on Catholicism both in the United States and internationally.

The Joy of Love experienced by families is also the joy of the Church. As the Synod Fathers noted, for all the many signs of crisis in the institution of marriage, “the desire to marry and form a family remains vibrant, especially among young people, and this is an inspiration to the Church”. As a response to that desire, “the Christian proclamation on the family is good news indeed”.

Excerpt from Amoris Laetita (The Joy of Love) Introduction

The Meaning and Saving Significance of the Ressurection - Finally, Christ's Resurrection - and the risen Christ himself is the principle and source of our future resurrection: "Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. . . For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. The risen Christ lives in the hearts of his faithful while they await that fulfillment . In Christ, Christians have tasted. . . the powers of the age to come and their lives are swept up by Christ into the heart of divine life, so that they may live no longer for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
