October - Mission Month: Mission Month has begun on Monday 1st of October 2018
- The Feast of the Little Flower. Mission Sunday is on Sunday 21st October 2018.
Mission Month is a time when the Holy Spirit is at work in each one of us.
He wants us to know that we are precious to God. If we have become casual about
our relationship with God the Holy Spirit urges us to make a new start. He
reminds us that we are called by God, and we are sent by God to help our children
in our home and family to grow in friendship with Jesus. Last Sunday I asked parents
to say some short prayers with their children each night, and to bring them out
to celebrate the Mass on Sunday. Make this your resolution for mission month.
In this way parents carry out their mission as parents, and help their children
come to know Jesus, and come to live like Jesus. In fact he asked parents in the
Gospel last Sunday not to be an “obstacle” to their children. It is important
during this month to answer Jesus lest we do an injustice to our children by refusing
to come to Mass with them, or refusing to say some short prayers with them. Children
are individuals as well as part of a family. They have rights like
adults. They have the right to grow up in a relationship with Jesus. Parents haven’t
the right to deny them that right, but they have to privilege of helping them to
know the one who makes their life meaningful, and happy. Please bring the children
to Mass. Let this be your work during Mission month.
Parish Development: The work on the field above the graveyard is still in
progress. We also need to Tar-Mac the ground behind the old school. So I ask you
to continue to be generous with the Development Fund envelope, and I thank those
who have been so generous to date.
The Rosary/Pope Francis: A communiqué released by Pope
Francis on Saturday last invited all the faithful of all the world to pray the Rosary
every day, during the Marian Month of October. He has urged us also to ask the Holy
Mother of God, and Saint Michael the Archangel to protect the Church from the Devil
who always seeks to separate us from God, and from each other. He asks us to say
the prayer: We fly to thy patronage O Holy Mother of God—etc, and the Prayer to
St Michael- St Michael Archangel: Defend us in battle, be our protection against
the wickedness and snares of the devil: may God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do
thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host by the power of God cast into hell Satan, and
all the evil spirits who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
