Readings for 30th Sunday in ordinary time

Jer 31:7-9. The prophet Jeremiah lived through the terrible time of the ruination of Jerusalem, the Temple and the Deportation. He is said to have died in Egypt. (c 570 BC). ‘His doctrine of a new covenant written in the heart made him the father of all that was best in Judaism…’ In showing ‘….. how intimate a person’s contact with God must be, he paved the way for the new covenant of Christian times.

Heb 5:1-6. Jesus was not appointed to be Jewish High Priest, but as High Priest of all the world. “He has been put to the test in exactly the same way as ourselves, apart from sin. Let us then have no fear in approaching the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace when we are in need of help.”

Mk 10:46-52. The much loved story of the cure of blind Bartimaeus is at the heart of the Christian story. He cries aloud to Jesus. He had earlier heard enough about Jesus to have decided that he had been sent by God, according to the promises made to King David. “Go, your faith has saved you,” Jesus tells him. Did the whole event take 5 minutes? .
