Remembering Our Dead
‘By virtue of the
communion of saints, the Church commends the dead to God’s mercy and offers her
prayers, especially the holy sacrifice of the Eucharist on their behalf’. This is
how the catechism reminds us of our need to pray for the dead throughout the year
but we remember them in a special way during the month of November.
There
will be a Concelebrated Mass here at 7.30 pm in St Eugene’s Cathedral on Saturday,
10th November for the deceased members of each home in the parish.
Anyone who has lost a close relative who was buried from
another church during the past year, please leave the deceased’s name in the Sacristy
or Parochial House so that they can be remembered in the Mass and a candle can be
lit in their memory.
Annual Diocesan Mass for deceased young people and
children will be celebrated by Bishop McKeown here in St Eugene’s
Cathedral at 7.00 pm on Sunday, 11th November. If you wish to have the name of your
loved one on the Remembrance tree you will have an opportunity to do so before the
Mass. Refreshments will be served after Mass.
Four Pillars of a Relationship with God
Creed: What we know about our faith
in God. This is revealed to us through Scripture and Tradition and is summarised
in the Creed.
Sacraments: How we celebrate our faith in
God. We express our love for God through participation in the liturgy and sacraments
of the Church. The sacraments are the most important ways that God shows his love
for us.
The Moral Life: How we celebrate
our faith in God. The Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and of peace, justice, and
love. We live our faith according to Catholic morality.
Prayer: How we communicate with God.
When you get these pillars in place, you’ll have a strong
foundation with God-the most important relationship you will ever have.

‘Do This In
Memory’ - First Communion Programme
ARRIVING IN THE CHURCH: Usually
when we come into God’s house we bow our heads or go down on one knee. This is called
‘genuflection’. It shows respect and love for Jesus. We genuflect or bow in front
of the tabernacle, the special place where Jesus is present at all times.
The tabernacle may be behind the altar or to one side of
it. There will be a red light near the tabernacle, called the sanctuary lamp. This
light tells us that Jesus the Blessed Sacrament, is present inside. The Blessed
Sacrament is another name for Jesus.
