GOSPEL TODAY: ST JOHN 18: 33-37

‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world’ (Vs 36)

The Church concludes the liturgical year today with the celebration of the Kingship of Christ. The word king is one that we might normally associate with royal families and earthly grandeur. Jesus’ model of kingship, however, is very different. It is about love; it is about justice; it is about healing; it is about reconciliation; it is about peace; it is about prayer; it is about trust in and acceptance of God’s will. Indeed, it is not about being served by others, but it is about serving God, through service of others. For us to try and imitate Jesus’ life of service, our minds and our hearts, must be focussed on His example.

As we prepare our hearts and minds to begin the new liturgical year, we pray that our actions and our words in our everyday lives will truly reflect the teachings and example of Christ the Servant King.

‘Let us be servants to one another, making Your kingdom come’

(From the hymn Christ be our Light by Bernadette Farrell)

N O V E M B E R M O N T H O F T H E H O L Y S O U L S Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen.
