Appointment as Parish Priest of Burt, Inch & Fahan

On Thursday 15 August, in addition to my responsibilities as Parish Priest of this parish of Desertegney & Lower Fahan and Chancellor of the Diocese, Bishop McKeown appointed me as Parish Priest of Burt, Inch & Fahan. It is a privilege to serve the needs of the Diocese in whatever way I can and to the very best of my ability. This further appointment is, in part, a reflection of the falling number of priests available to serve in parishes. It does not signal the amalgamation of these neighbouring historic parishes but, rather, the realities of the times in which we are living.

Father Walsh and I will continue to serve the needs of this parish, and I will be assisted in my role in Burt, Inch & Fahan by two curates, Father Diggin and Father Mulhern. This appointment will place added responsibility upon me, especially where time management is concerned. Aside from all other responsibilities, I would like to assure you that my time and energies will remain primarily focussed on the pastoral care of these parishes. It is my earnest hope that I can fulfil this desire. It will only be possible with God’s help and the help of many many people in both parishes. I thank you for your on-going help, support and understanding as we continue to do our best to build up the kingdom of God on earth.

Twentieth Anniversary of the Death of Fr Joe Carolan RIP

Father Joseph Carolan, former Parish Priest of this parish, died twenty years ago on 22 August 1999. An Anniversary Mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated in Cockhill on Wednesday, 21 August at 7.30pm. May he rest in peace.

Holy Hour

To mark Fr Carolan’s anniversary, a Holy Hour for the intentions of the parish family will take place at 7:30pm on Thursday 22nd August in Cockhill. All parishioners are invited attend.

Diocesan Religious Education Conference

‘The Path I Walk, Christ walks it’

The Diocese of Derry is hosting its inaugural Education Conference for Schools in Saint Columb’s College, Derry on Wed 28th and Thurs 29th Aug. As part of this event, there will be two public sessions, beginning each evening at 7pm. On 28th Aug, Fr Adrian Porter, SJ, Director of the Jesuit Institute of Education, London, will speak about, ‘Trusting God-Promoting Positive Mental Health in a Catholic School’ and, on 29th Aug, Professor Francis Campbell, Vice Chancellor of Saint Mary’s University, Twickenham, will address the topic, ‘Why Choose a  Catholic School?’ Everyone is welcome to attend.

GIFT (Growing In Faith Together) Programme:

This is a faith development programme we will be running in the parish for First Years in the autumn term. We need adult volunteers who will help with the delivery of the programme.
