Third of Four National Collections for World Meeting of Families 2018

Next weekend, throughout the country, the third in a series of four collections will take place at Masses. These collections are to help offset the costs connected with the World Meeting of Families and Papal Visit taking place in Dublin 21-26 August. This will be the last ‘second collection’ for the foreseeable future. The following key moments make up the World Meeting of Families:

- A National Opening on Tuesday 21 August which will take place simultaneously in each of the dioceses of Ireland;

- A three day congress from 22-24 August in the RDS, Dublin;

- A Festival of Families on Saturday 25 August, comprising a reflective concert style event within a prayerful and joyful atmosphere, in which personal stories of faith will be shared by families from all continents, in the presence of Pope Francis

- A Closing Mass will be celebrated by Pope Francison Sunday 26 August with thousands of people from Ireland and across the world.

Father Bradley

WORKSHOP ON THE ENVIRONMENT

This is a practical Diocesan follow-up on the Pope’s encyclical on the environment (‘Laudato Si’), using short clips of dvd followed by discussion. It will look at the PROBLEM of devastation on planet Earth (our Home) and on HOW we got into the present situation; then at possibilities and hope for the future. Pope Francis calls for an ECOLOGICAL CONVERSION. This is an opportunity to begin that process. The workshop is for people from different parishes in Inishowen and is being held in St. Teresa’s room at the back of St. Mary’s Oratory in Buncrana on Saturday 24 February from 10am to 5pm. Tea and sandwiches served. If interested contact ‘laudatosisisignore2017@gmail.com or 93-62390/ M: 0876965554.

Readings for 1st Sunday of Lent

Gen 9:8-15. Even all those thousands of years ago the rainbow was interpreted as a sign that the plan of our ultimate salvation had already been laid down. In today’s gospel the plan is fulfilled.

Ps 24. “Your ways, Lord, are faithfulness and love.”

1 Pet 3:18-22. The corrupt contemporaries of Noah rejected the promptings of the Holy Spirit and the Flood waters cleansed them from the earth. So too the waters of baptism offers each of us the chance to purge ourselves of evil and commit ourselves to the victorious Christ.

Mk 1:12-15. Immediately after his baptism Jesus is driven (very forcefully) by the Spirit into the desert. There he recapitulates in his own person the whole Jewish experience of the call to covenant with God. He emerges to announce to the world: ‘The time has come, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent and believe the Good News.’

God bids us welcome to his house

God bids us welcome to his house

and he invites us to his feast.

Day of great joy and happiness Alleluia.

Let us approach unto the feast to which the Lord invites us all and eat the bread which gives us life.

To do your will is my desire

To do your will is my desire

To live in you Lord is my life.

To spread your love through all the earth

to find in you the joy of life.

All of my days I sing your praise.

Through all my nights you are my light

You will shine forth through all my years

and joyously will bring me home.

Let there be peace shared among us

Let there be peace in our hearts.

May now your peace sweep this nation cause us O Lord to arise; give us a fresh understanding of all the peace that is real.

Let there be peace shared among us let there be peace.

Let there be love etc. Let there be joy etc.

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there is hatred let me bring your love. Where there is injury your pardon Lord, And where there's doubt true faith in you.

Oh Master grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Come back to me with all your heart,

don’t let fear keep us apart.

Trees do bend, tho’ straight and tall;

so must we to others’ call.

Long have I waited for your coming home to me and living deeply our new life The wilderness will lead you

to your heart where I will speak.

The wilderness will lead you

to your heart where I will speak.

Integrity and justice

with tenderness you shall know.
