1st of each month many of our parishioners have signed up to pray for an hour for
Marriage and Family Life. Everyone is invited to join in this prayer, either by
taking on an hour or including this intention in your own prayer during that day.
If you would like to participate, please enter your name and contact details on
the sheet located beside our banner near the altar rails. The hour can be undertaken
in any quiet location of your choosing. In the
month of July, Grandparents and Great Grandparents could be our focus for prayer.
Pope Francis said, “Very often it is the grandparents who ensure that the
most important values are passed down to their grandchildren and many people can
testify that they owe their initiation to the Christian Life to their grandparents.
Their words, their affection or simply their presence help children realise that
history did not begin with them, that they are now part of an age-old pilgrimage
and that they need to respect all that came before them.” Grandparents
fulfil a very important role in the upbringing of children and young people. They
can be a very important source of support for parents in enabling them to have time
for each other. They can be a great source of comfort for their grandchildren when
they need someone to confide in and they can be a support for the parents to hand
on values and the faith particularly when parents may be struggling with the faith
themselves. Prayer for Grandparents Lord Jesus, help families and society to value the presence and role of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded, but always encounter respect and love. Help them to live serenely and to feel welcomed in all the years which you give them. Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage and by your prayers grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of life without end. Amen.
