The Future Mission of Our Parishes:

Monsignor McGuinness continues by saying that the number of Masses in all parishes will need to be reduced to take account of the new reality. He says: “ I am asking that the priests in each Pastoral Area meet within the next month to agree on how they can arrange weekend and weekday Masses and other Liturgies in a way that can (a) best provide a range of Mass times for congregations across neighbouring parishes. (b) reduce the workload and stress on priests and also for holiday cover, and the possibility of illness, (c) enable the community participation dimension and the quality of our liturgies to be enhanced,( d) provide a basis for lay people to play their full part in ministry including the leading of some liturgies. And begin the process of establishing administrative points or offices at key locations around the diocese, so that parishes can share the increasing burden of administration, financial compliance and communications as well as providing people with an efficient and responsive service. I ask all to note 1: that Masses will be reduced, 2: community participation and quality of our liturgies enhanced, 3: Lay people to be asked to play their full part in ministry, 4: and sometimes to lead some Liturgies, 5: administrative points. Or offices at key locations around the diocese will be selected, so that parishes can share an increasing burden of administration, financial compliance, and communications as well as providing people with an efficient and responsive service.

It is important that we absorb all these changes and that we know them. Make sure to study them please/ Make sure to know them: It is important that all of us study them with open minds. It is important also that we see these changes in a positive way knowing that we have the goodness, generosity, and ability to put them into practice. Together as a parish we have been preparing for them. The Parish Pastoral Council has been pioneers in this work and have helped us greatly in our preparation. We need more people in the Parish Pastoral Council now to ensure our success into the future. Change is difficult and we need to work together to bring change about. We are in changing times and the onus is on us to be open to change. Monsignor continues: “Lay Ministry within our church is central to its mission. Fully appreciating and expanding the whole range of ministries across our diocese involves both great challenge and exciting potential. This is not about making up for the diminishing numbers of priests. It is a response to the Baptismal calling of each one of us.” The west Fermanagh Area - Parishes of Enniskillen and Lisbellaw, Tempo, Derrygonnelly, Arney, Belcoo. Let us pray to the Holy Spirit: “Come holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful”
