On 3rd April 2018 the Bishop of Raphoe, Alan McGuckian SJ ordained two seminarians to the diaconate in the Basilica of Saint Prassede, Rome. One of those seminarians was Declan McGeehan from the Diocese of Derry, who we are delighted to now welcome to Drumragh and Cappagh Parishes!

Rev. Declan McGeehan, originally from the Cathedral parish in Derry, graduated in 2010 with a degree in Law with Irish before starting seminary studies in 2013. He spent two years studying philosophy at Maynooth before moving to the Pontifical Irish College in Rome to study theology for a further three years. Now, in his fifth year of formation for the priesthood, Declan has commenced his diaconal ministry of service in our Diocese and will divide his time between Drumragh and our neighbouring parish of Cappagh.

As a deacon, Declan is an ordinary Minister of Baptism, can preside at weddings, assist the priest at Mass, proclaim the Gospel and preach, as well as preside at wakes and funeral services.
