LOVE GOD AND LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR GOSPEL OF ST MARK 12:28-34

Today’s Gospel brings us to the heart of what a Christian life asks: love God and love neighbour. Although taught in Scripture as the greatest of the Commandments, it is important for us not to see it as some sort of rule or law. Similarly, the love of which Jesus speaks in Scripture is not an ‘emotional feeling’. It can best be described as ongoing, outgoing concern for our brothers and sisters in Christ that is demonstrated by our actions, actions that are carried out with attitudes coming from the heart.

God of gracious love, open our hearts that Your Word may penetrate our inner being

and bring us life in Your name. May the light of your love shine

in every part of who we are, so that we may respond to your great love

with our whole self. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

INDULGENCES FOR THE DEAD – As the Catechism teaches, all the Holy Souls need our prayers, for the final purification from their sins in the journey through Purgatory (CCC 1030-1031). Visiting the cemetery, attending Mass and praying for the dead is our gift to them. The first eight days of November offer an Indulgence for a Holy Soul. Please pick up a leaflet in the porch and consider undertaking the prayers for a loved one.

GLENOCK SURVEY – The parish finance council has commissioned an architect's survey of St Eugene's Church. The masonry in the bell-tower is a source of concern. Accordingly, Fr Donnelly has asked that U-16s use the ground floor of the church. Thank you.
