Beragh Parish Newsletter Sunday, 2nd December 2018 | First Sunday of Advent Mission Statement: Beragh Parish Pastoral Council exists to serve Christ and his people by listening to their needs, identifying the gifts of parishioners to meet these needs and so build a sense of community in which all can live a truly Christian Life Parish Priest Mgr Colum Curry PP, VG Tel: 028 8075 8206 Priests of the Pastoral Area Fr P Hannigan 028 8776 1211 Fr M O’Dywer 028 8556 7096 Fr S McEvoy 028 8555 7212 E-Mail: beraghparochial@btinternet.com | Web Site: beraghparish.com St Vincent de Paul Helpline : 07738837875 Dear Parishioner and Gentle Reader, Today is the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning
of the Church’s Liturgical Year. During the season of Advent, which runs from now
until 24th December, we are preparing for the coming of Christ. While there is a tendency to concentrate on the Nativity
as the celebration of Christ’s historical coming into the world, I think it is important
that we don’t lose sight of the other aspects of his coming as well. During these days of Advent, we should try to reflect
on the coming of Christ in a threefold way: We commemorate the historical birth of Jesus as Son of
God. “The Word was made flesh and lived among us”. Jesus shared in our humanity
so that we might share in his divinity. We acknowledge the fact that Christ continues to come
to us in mystery every day, especially in his Word and in his Sacraments. The Lord’s
abiding presence is with us and within us. We look forward in hope to Christ’s final coming at the
end of time. The Lord will come again in glory and hand over the Kingdom to the
Father. In short – we celebrate Christ’s coming in HISTORY at
Bethlehem; we celebrate Christ’s coming in MYSTERY each day; we celebrate Christ’s coming in MAJESTY at the end of
time. Let us be watchful! Let us be awake! Let our prayer be
‘Come, Lord Jesus.’ With every blessing, Fr Colum The Gift of Christmas With only a week left until the long-awaited Carol Service
in Beragh Chapel, I am aware that a number of people in the parish, and some people
outside the parish, have been working extremely hard to ensure that this event will
be a great success. While it is my hope that it will indeed be a significant fund
raiser for Beragh Parish, I am confident it will also be a memorable evening of
amazing talent that will raise our spirits in preparation for Christmas. If you
haven’t already got a ticket, I would encourage you to do so. Facebook Events Page - Beragh Parish Christmas Concert
