CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players

www.pivotalplayers.com/volume1

This film series showcases a handful of saints, artists, mystics and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the world and the course of civilization. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be inspired by the lives of Pivotal Players such as - St Francis of Assisi, Michelangelo, St Catherine of Siena, St Thomas Aquinas, Blessed John Henry Newman, G.K. Chesterton, St Augustine and St Benedict.

We will begin in mid-May with our first Pivotal Player - St Francis of Assisi - the Reformer, who radically lived as Jesus commanded to transform the Church and the world. We will look at St Francis in different ways over 4 weeks.

Week 1: Movie Morning/Evening (don’t forget your popcorn!) You are invited to sit back, relax and watch the inspiring film “Brother Sun, Sister Moon” (directed by Franco Zeffirelli). A very touching account of the early life of St Francis, this film portrays St Francis’ spiritual conversion, his humble life, his friendship with St Clare (founder of the Poor Clares), and his founding of the Franciscan Order.

Week 2 & 3: Journey with Bishop Barron in an awe-inspiring film as he travels through Assisi, Rome, and other places associated with St Francis’ early life, how he reformed the Church and the impact he left on the world through to our times. You can view a trailer of Bishop Barron’s film at www.pivotalplayer.com/volume1 or on the parish website www.cappaghparish.com

Week 4: Movie Morning/Evening (more popcorn required!): “Pope Francis: A Man of His Word” focuses on the life and goals of the Holy Father, portraying his personal journey of faith and mission. In this film/documentary Pope Francis presents his work of reform and answers todays global questions - from his deep concern for the poor and wealth inequality to his involvement in environmental issues, social justice and calls for peace.

In the Autumn we will then move on to our second Pivotal Player.

In what promises to be an enjoyable, inspiring and informative series, we will move through these

inspirational characters and learn more about our faith, our Christian heritage and history.

For further information and to book your place, please contact the parish office.
